Three days after her birth, Mariah was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease.   Mariah is our third child and going into the pregnancy we knew there was a 25% chance that she would have the disease.  Mariah did not exhibit major complications  due to the disease until she was 2 years old.  She was very strong, but as parents it pained us to see our little baby crying in pain and being helpless to take her pain away.  Some of her hospital visits were long, but eventually Mariah would return to her normal, playful self.  Mariah is the boss of the family and keeps us laughing all the time.

It is our hope that you can share your story on this site to inspire, encourage, and educate those of us who deal with this disease on a daily (and sometime hourly) basis.  Together we will overcome!
